Latest Updates from Our Project:

Minor Update & Director Tier Character Submissions
over 1 year ago – Tue, Oct 29, 2024 at 04:55:16 PM

Hi Everyone,

A quick update from us today as we're hard at work on a final round of edits while getting a number of details squared away for the physical rewards.

Once the payout from Kickstarter hits we'll be able to start putting in orders for pins and stickers and get the last few pieces of art commissioned while waiting for the final manuscript to be ready.

There are several backers whose payments have not processed. Please make sure Kickstarter has the correct billing information for you if you have not seen the charges go through yet.

Director Level Backers

I have just sent out an email from my Broken Door account (please double check that it didn't get caught in your spam filter - it will be from my brokendoor.shop email address). This email includes the link to a form for you to submit your character that will be included in the book.

Paragon Level Backers

I am waiting for a final backer pledge to process before sending out emails to each of you individually to schedule our playtest sessions. I will send the email to everyone whose payment has processed early next week, regardless of what happens.

In the meantime, you can begin to put together your game group for the session. The ideal table size will be 3-5 players, and I expect our playtest sessions will be scheduled for either a weekday evening or weekend.

Final Thoughts

There is still plenty of work for us to do, but we'll be in touch again over the next few weeks with more information to share.

Thanks,
Josh & The Broken Door Team

Hello Paragons,

Thank you for your support to make Paragons: The Roleplaying Game a reality. With the campaign fully funded as of an hour ago, we are officially doing this.

Late Pledges are now open, so if you know someone who wanted to support the campaign, they can still support the project, it just won't unlock any stretch goals if we hit them.

Over the next week, we will be reaching out to backers at The Director and Paragon tiers to get started with those tier-specific rewards. We will have some more updates in the coming weeks about our progress, but we are currently on track to have digital rewards out early next year.

This is where the fun part begins and we put our heads down and get to work for a couple of months - and we can't wait to show off the finished product.

Thanks again,
The Broken Door Team

100% Funded!

We're officially making this game!

Today at Gamehole Con I checked my phone during my lunch break to see an email from Kickstarter saying we hit our funding goal for Paragons: The Roleplaying Game. Since then, I was anxiously waiting to get back to the hotel room to write this update.

What does this mean?

If you're backed at a digital-only tier, we expect to deliver PDFs early next year - likely in late January/early February. If you backed at a tier that includes a physical product, we expect to begin fulfilling orders in July, if everything goes to plan.

In the meantime, we still have plenty of work to do. If you backed at the $225 or $500 tier, you will receive an email within a few days of the campaign ending with additional information about the special components to your pledge. We hope to have everything for that completed before the end of this year. Our team will also be working to complete any other final changes needed based on playtest feedback before creating the final files in January.

We still have several days left in the campaign, which means we have an opportunity to reach some stretch goals. As a reminder, our $20k stretch goal includes a physical copy of our starter episode from the Quickstart Guide, and at $25k comics writer Jim Zub will join the team! If we can hit $30k, we'll include physical dice and dice trays for all backers at the $110 tier and higher. It's definitely a stretch, but would make for a nice addition to the Kickstarter if we can hit it.

We're still at Gamehole Con through tomorrow, but you can expect to hear more from us in the coming days as we push to hit these stretch goals and finish strong. Thank you to every one of our backers who believed in the project. This game is turning out to be something really special and we are thrilled to have so many people be part of the process.

Thanks,
The Broken Door Team

1 Week Remaining
over 1 year ago – Wed, Oct 16, 2024 at 08:43:19 PM

Hello Everyone,

We have one week left in our campaign and we're so close to hitting our funding goal. As promised in a previous update, we have previews to share of some layout changes that will hopefully make the game easier to read while optimizing the PDF for screen readers. We also have an update for international backers interested in receiving a physical copy of the book. So let's hop into it!

International Shipping

There has not been enough interest based on the results in our Google form to work with local distributors in other parts of the world. What this means is that we will have to handle international shipping on a case by case basis (and it will likely be expensive). If you are an international backer (ie. outside of the US, Canada, and Mexico) and would like to receive a physical copy of the book, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we will work with you to ship you a book once fulfillment of physical rewards begins. You will be responsible for handling any customs or VAT paperwork. This will be done through our webstore, as opposed to being handled through Kickstarter, but you will still receive the discounts available only to Kickstarter backers.

Layout Changes

Here is a preview of the final book's layout. You'll notice several major differences between this and the Quickstart Guide.

A preview of the Paragons: The Roleplaying Game book content, featuring a black box with a cartoon graphic for the chapter 3 title.
A preview of the Paragons: The Roleplaying Game book content showing a blue gear table and a new lightning bolt design for the page number.

Thank you to everyone who provided us with feedback about Paragons: The Roleplaying Game. There is still time to submit your playtest feedback on our website - that form will be open through late November.

  • We heard your concerns about the text justification making it difficult to read. We have addressed this by switching to a single column, left-aligned paragraph style for most of the book, while using a modified two column style for lists of game mechanics where it is helpful to fit more words on the page.
  • We have standardized some of the colors used in our design elements (namely, the pink/magenta felt out of place alongside blue and yellow, so we removed it.
  • We have also added design elements that better match our inspiration from comic books and superhero cartoons to be used as chapter headers and in the Archetypes section to make it easier to parse the information.

These changes are not final, and more changes may yet be made, but hopefully this preview gives a better sense of the direction we're headed and resolves some of the concerns around the book's legibility. We will make these design updates to the Quickstart Guide as well.

Parting Thoughts

As we have said from the beginning, thank you for your support. This has been an exciting and eventful journey for us, and we have learned a lot along the way. This is just the beginning for us at Broken Door Entertainment, and we hope to do more with Paragons: The Roleplaying Game too.

We still have 7 days to fully fund the project and we believe we can do it! Our team will be at Gamehole Con this weekend, so feel free to come say hello and chat with us about the game if you're going to be at the convention.

Thanks,
The Broken Door Team

Two Weeks Left!
over 1 year ago – Thu, Oct 10, 2024 at 10:59:48 AM

Hello everyone,

We have two weeks left in the our Kickstarter campaign for Paragons: The Roleplaying Game! Over the past week, we've put our heads together to adjust some of our existing stretch goals and we also have some more exciting news. Let's start with the news - Our cover illustration for the standard hardcover by Genel Jumalon is complete!

A team of heroes fights to distract and defeat a giant orange mech in a burning city street while civilians flee to safety in the rubble.

We shared this illustration on social media yesterday, and now we're excited to share it here with you.

Updated Stretch Goals

While the currently announced stretch goals will remain the same, we're adding some new ones to the mix.

At $25k, Jim Zub joins the team! He is a writer, artist and art instructor based in Toronto, and over the past twenty years he's worked for a diverse array of publishing, movie and video game clients including Marvel, DC Comics, Disney, Capcom, Hasbro, Cartoon Network, and Bandai-Namco. He is currently the flagship writer for Conan the Barbarian.

At $35k, two additional guest contributors join the team: Ify Nwadiwe and Ginny Di!

Ify is a comedian and actor who writes TV shows, video games, and TV shows about video games. He's the host of Um Actually on Dropout, and has performed in actual plays on Dimension 20 and Critical Role, among others.

Ginny is a YouTuber, cosplayer, tabletop gamer, and singer known for her fun and educational video content that teaches players how to play tabletop games. She is regularly a featured guest at conventions and events like D&D in a Castle.

Finally, our third new stretch goal is at $45k, and is a result of community interest: VTT Integrations. At $45k, we will have enough wiggle room in the budget to work with someone to make a conversion of Paragons: The Roleplaying Game for Roll20. Eventually, we would love to support more VTT options, but that requires both time and money. If we can reach these stretch goals, we may be able to offer an additional stretch goal to provide support for another VTT, but we don't want to get ahead of ourselves.

Closing Thoughts

Once again, we are incredibly grateful for all of your support up to this point, and we can't wait to see what comes of this campaign. Let's finish strong in these final two weeks!

Thanks,
The Broken Door Team
