Shipping Updates & DTRPG
12 months ago – Mon, May 05, 2025 at 06:32:19 PM

Hi Everyone!

There's a lot happening behind the scenes, and it's all very exciting, so let's dig into this update.

Shipping Updates

Good news! The alternate hardcovers have arrived! This was a separate, much smaller order from the bulk of the standard hardcovers so it was easier to ship to us here in the states. Here's a picture of the special edition cover in-hand!

A copy of Paragons: The Roleplaying Game with a matte black cover that features the main illustration and orange splashes of color held in front of a bookshelf with tabletop game books, including a standard edition cover of Paragons: The Roleplaying Game.

I only ordered about 50 copies of the special edition cover; enough to fulfill the Kickstarter and have a few extras. I plan to bring those extras to conventions until we sell out of them. We'll never do another print run of them, so if you get one of the 50, you'll be part of an exclusive club!

The standard hardcovers leave China this week. Because of the tariff uncertainty, the shipper asked to push back the shipping date by a couple of weeks so they could get some more information and fortunately the cost of shipping has not gone up in that time. I expect that our books will be exempt from the current tariffs, but we'll find out for certain once they arrive in the US. The current shipping estimate is 35 days, which means they will arrive here in mid-to-late June, with plenty of time to pack and ship out before Gen Con.

Other News

There are a few other exciting updates on our end. Let's start with Gen Con!

The Broken Door logo on a green background, with text that reads "Find Us at Gen Con"

Gen Con Programming

We will be running 4 demo game sessions at Gen Con, for people to check out Paragons. Whether you'd like to learn to play yourself, or want to recommend them to a friend, you'll want to sign up for those events quickly!

Those events are being run by Game Masters from Gehenna Games, and Gehenna is also graciously allowing us to share booth space in the vendor hall. Gen Con will be the official public release of Paragons. I also hope to bring a print version of the sample episode from the Quickstart Guide to the show, as a great resource for groups to run their first session of Paragons. Physical products will go on sale on our website the week after Gen Con.

Paragons x DriveThruRPG

Earlier today we released the Paragons PDF on DriveThruRPG, providing more opportunities for interested players to discover the game. DriveThru offers a lot of discoverability for indie game publishers like us, and it would be incredibly helpful if those of you who have already played the game could take a moment to leave a comment or review on the DTRPG page for Paragons. You can click this link to do that.

Future Products

Last but certainly not least, I am turning my attention to future products now that Paragons is done with development and approaching fulfillment. While I don't have much more than a tease that I can share yet, here are two products in active development right now:

  • A Paragons Starter Kit
    • This box set will come with several one-shot sample episodes, pre-generated characters, a custom d6 dice set, and some other physical goodies to help your game group get started. We'll have multiple writers involved in developing these one-shots.
  • A card-based solo journaling RPG
    • This game lets you write love letters to that special someone in your life from the perspective of a soldier away on deployment. I have an awesome collaborator on this project.

I've got a couple other irons in the fire, but nothing is far enough along to talk about yet. I'm optimistic that we'll be able to start crowdfunding for at least one of these two projects later this year, with the second one crowdfunding in early 2026.

That's all for now! I'll be at PAX East this weekend working the Norse Foundry booth, so feel free to swing by and say hi if you're in Boston, otherwise you'll hear more from me in late May/early June as we get ready to ship out orders to everyone.

Digital Downloads and the Broken Door Webstore
about 1 year ago – Fri, Apr 04, 2025 at 02:28:26 PM

Good news!

Digital rewards have been sent out via Backerkit. If you purchased the PDF or the Map and Token Pack as part of your pledge, you should have received an email from Backerkit to access those. If you didn't get that email, or haven't already gone through Backerkit, you can get there through this link:

Broken Door Web Store

Over the last week, I've spent some time setting up a web store for us to sell the Paragons PDF after fulfillment. My hope is to have the PDF available for purchase next week, but there's still a little bit of work I need to complete before that is done. I will be sure to announce it once the webstore is live.

Production Update

On Wednesday I received an update from our printer in China that everything has been printed, and books are being assembled (ie. pages are being put in covers) this week. I know there is some uncertainty in the games industry related to tariffs so I want to reiterate to you all that I will not be passing along those costs to you, but I am operating under the assumption that we will have to pay these tariffs when the books are shipped to me here in the US unless the government tells me otherwise.

Piles of pages showing interior pages from Paragons: The Roleplaying Game and the covers stacked on top of one another.

This is a shorter update today. As we have more to share in the coming weeks and months, I'll keep everyone in the loop, but there's not a lot for me to do but wait until the books are shipped and arrive to me here in the US, in terms of actual progress towards fulfilling this campaign.

Have a good one,

One Week Until Backerkit Orders Lock
about 1 year ago – Fri, Mar 21, 2025 at 11:09:45 AM

Hi Everyone,

Things are moving quickly and it's so exciting to see. The key purpose of this update is to share that Backerkit orders will lock (and cards will be charged) in one week. This isn't a hard deadline to get your Backerkit survey in yet, but it is a reminder to get those filled out if you haven't already.

Exciting news: The production sample arrived earlier this week and it looks great! Here's a picture I took to show it off.

A book standing on a wooden surface, cracked slightly open. The cover depicts a team of heroes fighting a robot and reads "Paragons: The Roleplaying Game. Broken Door Entertainment."

We've gone ahead and placed the final order now that we've reviewed the sample, so here are the remaining steps for this Kickstarter:

  • Printer manufactures the books in China
  • Books are shipped to us in the US
  • We confirm inventory counts and begin packaging orders to send out
  • Your book (and any additional goodies you purchased) arrives
  • You play Paragons and tell us how much fun you have!

Obviously that's a simplification, but to put it simply: We're on track to fulfill on-time, if not slightly ahead of schedule.

So to recap: If you haven't filled out your Backerkit survey yet, please do. The books are being made, which means we're on-track to have your books to you this summer.

If you haven't received an email from Backerkit yet, you can access the survey with this link and the email address tied to this Kickstarter:

I hope to have the PDFs ready to deliver by the time orders are locked and cards get charged next week, but if they aren't ready on that same day, it will be a very fast follow.

Until next time, Happy Spring!

Backerkit Surveys Going Out
about 1 year ago – Mon, Mar 10, 2025 at 09:45:08 AM

Hi everyone,

In just a few minutes, I'll be sending out the first wave of Backerkit surveys to a small number of backers. These first few surveys will give us a chance to make sure there are no issues with the surveys before sending them out to everyone later today/early tomorrow.

Once you get the survey and fill it out, you'll see the estimated shipping costs. We will not lock in orders or charge cards until the end of March, but you can still fill out the survey after that if for some reason you are unable to take care of the survey between now and then.

Quick Printing Update

I do want to share that the printer has begun working on a sample to send us, which means we'll be able to see the physical proof soon, and do a quick quality check to make sure everything meets our standards before printing the full order.

Things are moving along at a good pace which means we should have no issue fulfilling on schedule and have some buffer time built into the schedule as well.

Best,
Josh @ Broken Door
