Backerkit Prep

Hi Folks,
I just submitted our Backerkit for review today, which means we'll hopefully be ready to launch it next week. So let's get into the updates:
Book Layout
We're working through some final details that we need for the printer to start manufacturing the physical books. My hope is that we'll have this wrapped up by early next week. Here's a quick preview of the final book's layout:
Physical Add-ons
Proofs of both the stickers and pins have arrived and they look amazing! I'm especially happy with the pins as the designs we put on the pins really pop in this format. Here are some pictures of how they look.
So what's next?
Once the Backerkit review is completed, the pledge manager will go out and be open for several weeks. This is an opportunity for you to pick up additional copies of the book or some add-ons at a slightly reduced price.
After that, I'm looking to create some opportunities to run demo sessions of Paragons: The Roleplaying Game, so anyone who wants to will be able to play the game and learn the rules. I'll have more details about this in the coming months as we wait for books to be manufactured and shipped to the US.
On that note, I do want to share that our cost of shipping the books from our printer in China to the US will be impacted by President Trump's tariffs. I have no intention of passing that additional cost on to Kickstarter backers, but it makes for an even more compelling reason to grab additional copies or add-ons on Backerkit as some prices will need to go up when we start selling things online and at conventions.
We'll be in touch soon with instructions for the Backerkit once it's live!

Layout Updates & Add-On Progress

Hi everyone,
The start of this year has been an absolute whirlwind so far, but that hasn't kept us from making great progress. We're getting incredibly close to being ready to launch the pledge manager, so let's dive into the update!
Layout Updates
Our rockstar layout designer (three cheers for Sam!) has been hard at work these last few weeks and we're getting close to having the PDF and print-ready files. There's still some work to do, but I'm optimistic that we'll be done with layout before the month is over! This means we are technically ahead of schedule, which means we should have no issue starting fulfillment on time.
Add-On Progress
As I was putting together the Backerkit, I realized that it would be best to have proofs in-hand of our stickers and pins in order to include product photography of what they will actually look like in the pledge manager, so I went ahead and ordered those proofs. It means the Backerkit won't launch for a few more weeks, but I think it's the right choice.
As of this moment, I'm hoping to put together one more map for the Digital Map & Token pack, but add-ons are otherwise in a very good spot.
So what's next?
As soon as the proofs for our stickers and pins arrive, I'll be able to update the Backerkit with product photography and after doing a final check through everything, expect to launch the pledge manager soon thereafter. This will be the perfect chance to make sure you get everything you wanted from the campaign. You can also share it with a friend who missed out on the initial campaign!
I expect we're still a couple weeks out from the pledge manager going live, but we're close. In the meantime, I'm working with an actual play group to put together a short campaign to help teach the rules to new players. If you're a content creator in the tabletop games industry and would like to chat about doing an actual play or featuring Paragons: The Roleplaying Game in some kind of content, please don't hesitate to reach out!
This is a chaotic and uncertain time for many of us but I believe that makes our game even more timely and important. I'll be in touch as soon as we have more news to share in regards to the Backerkit.
Thanks,
Josh @ Broken Door
Layout Begins & Add-ons

Hello everyone and happy new year!
2025 has already been busy for us, but we're making good progress. I sent everything for Paragons: The Roleplaying Game to our layout designer over the weekend, which means I can now shift my attention to setting up the survey that will include shipping costs for physical rewards. I'm optimistic that layout will be done sometime in February, at which point we will be able to begin fulfilling digital rewards, and based on my last conversation with our printer, we will be ahead of schedule for printing and shipping the physical books.
All that leaves is finalizing everything for the physical and digital add-ons, which will be on my to-do list over the next few weeks. Since the work on the core rulebook is mostly done, here are some fun stats:
- The manuscript of the core rulebook (not including the credits + copyright information) is 27,693 words long.
- There are a total of 24 art assets in the book, not including tables, graphs, or other minor design elements.
We've got some fun things in the works for future projects and it's nice to be able to take a deep breath and look beyond fulfilling this Kickstarter, even just for a moment, to begin work on the next project. This is only possible because of your incredible support for this Kickstarter, so I want to say it again: Thank you for helping us make this game. I'll share another update once there's news about the fulfillment survey and/or progress with layout.
Thanks,

Quickstart Guide Updates & Manuscript Progress

Hi Everyone,
I know that a couple weeks ago we sent out an update saying it would be the last you'd hear from us before 2025 but things have been moving quickly and I have an additional (short) update for you today!
Quickstart Guide Updates
We made some updates to the Quickstart Guide for accessibility purposes which are done, so here's the brand new Quickstart Guide PDF. This should be much easier to navigate and should play nicely with screenreaders too.

This will be updated on the Broken Door website soon, but I wanted to share it with Kickstarter backers first.
Manuscript Progress
Great news! Today we had our final editorial meeting which means that all of our edits based on playtest feedback are completed! We still have to add the NPCs from backers at the Director level tier, but the deadline for those submissions is past, which means it's just on me to sit down and work through them and we will be 100% done with the manuscript for the game!
With that, we're actually done for the year. Enjoy your holidays and we'll be back in 2025 with more updates!

Ongoing Work & Backer Specific Details

Hi Everyone,
It's been a busy couple of weeks since the last update. As a reminder: If you backed at The Director or Paragon tiers ($225 and $500, respectively), you have received an email from my brokendoor.shop email address with instructions for how to handle your tier-specific rewards. If you miss the deadline to submit those to me, we will not hold up Kickstarter fulfillment for you. Please get back to me about those rewards if you haven't already.
Otherwise, we have been making good progress towards the final manuscript. I've added some final revisions based on playtest feedback over the last few months, and have a couple more tweaks left to make. All that remains in terms of writing is to get the backer submissions into the game, which we'll be working on in December. We're simultaneously doing another editing polish pass, which is on track to finish ahead of schedule.
There's not much else to share at this point, except that there's more work to do. As we get to the end of the year, progress may be a little slow between the holiday season and travel for PAX Unplugged, and it's unlikely we'll send out another update until there's something substantial to share, so we'll pre-emptively wish you a happy holiday season.
If you'll be at PAX Unplugged next week in Philadelphia, please come say hello! I will be working the Norse Foundry booth during the day, and would love to talk about superheroes and Paragons: The Roleplaying Game while selling dice at the show.
Thanks,
Josh @ Broken Door Entertainment
